Salesforce.com Certified Administrator Study Guide

Study Guide Table of Contents

What is a CertifiedOnDemand.com Study Guide?

A CoD study guide is a structured set of objectives, resources (articles, videos, blog posts, etc.), and key facts (takeaways from each objective) designed to prepare you to pass a Salesforce Certification exam.

Watch the video overview:

One of the biggest challenges with learning Salesforce is one of information:  there’s simply too much of it.  The Salesforce User Guide is 3500+ pages, there are thousands of videos on the  Salesforce YouTube channel alone, and hundreds of blogs.

Processing the abundance of information is time-consuming, and it is often difficult to understand what’s truly important to know when preparing for a certification exam.

Another common challenge is identifying knowledge gaps (you don’t know what you don’t know).  For example, when I took the Salesforce.com Certified Administrator exam, I didn’t know that account teams existed (much less what they did), and I spent a lot of time preparing for the exam.

CoD study guides greatly mitigate the above challenges, and are designed with several specific goals in mind:

  1. To dramatically reduce the time required to prepare for a certification exam.
  2. To dramatically increase the likelihood of passing a certification exam.
  3. To present real-world challenges in safe learning environment.
  4. To serve as a reference guide after you’ve passed your certification exam.

Why CertifiedOnDemand.com?

The study guide provided by Salesforce.com is very high level.  Contrast that with the amount of information available, it’s very difficult to quickly identify what you need to learn and study.  Let’s look at an example: the Salesforce.com study guide has 2 objectives for User Setup, while the User Setup & Login Process – Free section on CertifiedOnDemand.com has 18 objectives, exercises, and a practice quiz.

Target Audience

If you are preparing for admin certification, this guide is for you.  I’ve gotten feedback from users that have taken Salesforce.com training, used Salesforce.com premiere training, study groups, books, and more.  Regardless of your prior training and experience, CertifiedOnDemand.com will help you prepare for certification.

Hi John – thanks for your reply above! Also wanted to report back that I also passed my certified admin exam last week at Dreamforce and absolutely credit your site for helping me get there! With the sheer volume of data out there the structure REALLY helped put my mind at ease and make sure I covered the requirements well. Hoping to add a few more badges in the next couple of years. This study guide has been a huge help. Very high quality. I was wondering if you have an ETA for the final sections of this guide? I’m hoping to take the ADM 201 exam soon and could use some quality materials regarding Data Validation and Workflow Automation.

      Thank you, John.
Great Help! I passed my certification last week. I agree this is a excellent study guide.

I just passed my ADM 201 certification exam this morning on the first try, thanks to this site. This was well worth the fee! DEV certification next!

  2. JohnCoppedge August 22, 2013 at 3:22 pm #

    Thanks Isaac,

I don’t have an exact date – the only large missing section at this point is workflow & approvals. Hopefully within the next few weeks I will have this up. I may consider posting this in incomplete form if that helps? Data validation (validation rules) are included in the data management section.

    Cheers,

    John

Thank you for your help, John. I actually took the test this week and passed! Thank you for developing such an excellent study guide.

  3. Larry Deckel September 29, 2013 at 7:17 pm #

Any ETA on when you’ll have the section on Approvals? I’m pretty strong on workflows, but have no experience with Approval Processes and will be taking the exam at Dreamforce in November.

    Hi John,
I’m having a hard time expanding the ‘study Guide Table of Content’ by clicking on the ‘+’ sign. It says opens with errors but still remains on the same page. Is there anything that I’m not doing right? I find navigating on this site quite problematic. How do I overcome this hurdle?

    • JohnCoppedge January 8, 2014 at 1:59 pm #

      Hi Jude,

What error are you getting? You can also expand the menu from the top of the screen (above the title). Thanks,

      John

    John,

Very useful study guide, helped me pass the exam on the first try. For all of you that might be wondering whether or not to get this study guide, I would say it is definitely worth it.

John – will this guide help me study for my Sales & Service Cloud certifications?

    Thanks –

  12. kevin carothers January 9, 2014 at 8:41 pm #

    Hi,

Does your site cover PKB, or communities?

    Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge January 10, 2014 at 4:42 pm #

Yes – communities is discussed in the Sales and Service cloud sections. Knowledge is discussed in the Service Cloud section.

  13. Srikrishnadevaraya SM January 23, 2014 at 9:28 am #

    Hi John,
I would like to know if i get the whole content for the Sales and Service cloud if i purchase the guide.
Can i go to Advance ADM, Sales and Service Cloud Consultants with the same material as well?
Also, i’m curious to know if it is a eBook that i get if i purchase?

    Thanks,

    • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2014 at 5:11 pm #

      Hi Sri,

The site is delivered online via this website; it is not a downloadable PDF. The content is focused on the admin certification exam (ADM201), which includes some service and sales cloud content. This guide is not designed to prep for Sales/Service Cloud consultant exams.

      Cheers,

      John

  14. Mohsin Nisar January 24, 2014 at 9:07 pm #

do you plan to have dev401 exam content?

  15. Nikhil More January 26, 2014 at 5:39 pm #

    Hey John,

The content is very helpful for ADM 201.
Are you planning to have content for other exams and courses such as Sales, Service cloud and also for DEV501, we are waiting.

    Regards,
    Nikhil.

    • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2014 at 7:01 pm #

      Hi Nikhil,

I’m not planning to release guides for new exams in the near future… thanks for the input though!

      Cheers,

      John

  16. Srikrishnadevaraya SM January 28, 2014 at 3:28 am #

    Hi John,

Have you covered “Visual Workflow” topic on this site? If not, can you please include this topic maybe under Workflows.

Also, suggest you to add some material relevant for preparation of Advanced Admin too. I think it be just a bit of addition in content and tougher Quiz sections but that will help all of us in a BIG way.

    Regards,
    Krishna

    • JohnCoppedge March 8, 2014 at 7:44 pm #

If I will add if not listed. It is not really covered in the admin study guide, although I think it is definitely relevant.

  17. Shwetha Ram January 28, 2014 at 4:17 pm #

    Hi John,

I am new to Certified on Demand. I went through the onsite training for Salesforce for System Admin. Can you please let me know how is your study guide different from the one they have provided. Can i review the guide and then purchase it? Also do you have a full length test that mocks up the actual test? I have my Adm exam in 3 weeks,
Kindly let me know such that it will be easier for me to make the decision.

    • JohnCoppedge January 28, 2014 at 6:21 pm #

      Hi Shwetha,

As you have an account, you have access to preview the guide sections marked free (getting started through data model).

There is a half-length (30 question) exam. This guide is much more detailed than the standard salesforce study guide. I have not taken ADM201 training, so I cannot compare to the guide provided in that training.

      Cheers,

      John

  18. Elizabeth Shephard February 10, 2014 at 1:37 am #

Hi John, I used the guide and all its contents to make my own detailed study notes. I’m pleased to share that I passed the exam my first try and am very pleased. I definitely think that it was worth the cost.

    • JohnCoppedge February 10, 2014 at 2:08 am #

Congrats Elizabeth! Do you think there is anything in your notes that would be valuable to incorporate into the site? I’m glad the site helped you pass!

  19. Kevin Desai February 13, 2014 at 12:30 pm #

A big big thank you to John Coppedge for putting up this website. Perhaps the best $20 I’ve ever spent. When I started my Administration exam preparations a couple of months back, all the material that I had was the study guide Salesforce has created. However, the help & support portal was not that helpful at that moment as what content is useful and what content can be omitted was not clear. And that’s where CertifiedOnDemand came in to picture. Everything here is just up to the need.

I cleared the exam today and a major if not all credit goes to you, John. Thanks mate. Cheers!

    • JohnCoppedge February 19, 2014 at 5:37 am #

Congrats Kevin that’s awesome! I love to hear this kind of feedback.

    • Elizabeth Shephard September 4, 2014 at 9:48 pm #

      $20! I paid $40! What’s up with that?

  20. Robert Rollar February 20, 2014 at 7:34 pm #

Really useful site John…Passed my Certified Admin test today on my first try…

  21. Ann Gately March 3, 2014 at 9:08 pm #

Is there a limit on the number of times you can take the exam?

    • JohnCoppedge March 6, 2014 at 2:06 pm #

I don’t think so but I would check Salesforce.com’s website to verify. The exam is $200 the first go around and $100 for retakes. If you are already certified you need to take maintenance exams for every Salesforce release – you get 3 tries on the maintenance exams.

    • JohnCoppedge March 7, 2014 at 3:43 am #

On this website, no (although excessive use will be flagged and account treated accordingly. In short so long as you aren’t sharing your account take any of the tests on this site as many times as you’d like.

  22. scott krause March 3, 2014 at 10:06 pm #

    Nailed it. Thanks John.

  23. Kirsten Sherwin March 5, 2014 at 3:33 pm #

Thank you, John. This site was extraordinarily helpful — I passed my exam yesterday! I used this site to consolidate my studying and create a “narrative” for configuration. It was great having the content in a specific order, videos, and notes to pull together concepts that don’t really exist otherwise. Also, having some of the 2014 release updates was also imperative. Do you have other sites built for Advanced Admin, Cloud Consulting, etc?

    • JohnCoppedge March 6, 2014 at 2:15 pm #

Winter 14 is in – Spring update is on its way. No plans for other certs right now :( Stayed tuned… and congrats!!

  24. KIRAN KHANDERAO March 8, 2014 at 3:09 am #

If you go on the website http://www.webassessor.com you will only see SF administrator WI14 and not ADM201. Can someone clarify?
    thanks

    • JohnCoppedge March 8, 2014 at 6:22 pm #

SFDC probably has not updated the exam for the spring 14 release – WI14 stands for winter 14. FYI – ADM201 is the classroom training course offered by salesforce to help you prepare for the certified administrator exam, not the name of the exam itself.

  25. Ron Koppelmann March 8, 2014 at 5:02 pm #

Great resource that helped me pass the certified admin exam.

  26. Sreedurga Prabhala March 9, 2014 at 9:16 pm #

    Hi John,

I took my exam yesterday and passed in my first attempt. COD was my primary study guide and I am super glad I invested in this site that was recommended to me by one of my colleagues. I will definitely suggest this site to any one who is looking to take the exam.

Having said that, I wanted to know if I would receive alerts when you add new content to this site? I am planning to take my Dev 401 and Sales Cloud Consultant certifications and would keep coming back to this site to refresh basics.

    Thanks again and Best,
    Sree

    • JohnCoppedge March 13, 2014 at 4:56 am #

      Yeah! Congrats Sree!!

No plans to release any further guides at this point, but will keep everyone posted via email if that changes in the future.

  27. Pavitra Arora March 13, 2014 at 8:32 am #

    Hi John
I am preparing for the ADM 201 exam and will possibly be appearing in the next quarter for the certification. Can you please advice on the below:
    – Cost for the COD Guide not sure if its $20 or $40
    – Since its an online material , Is there any Time Limit /constraint post which the content will no longer be available.

    Thanks
    Pavi

  28. Jono Schneider March 18, 2014 at 4:52 pm #

    Hey John,

Thanks for this site. It’s an invaluable resource. I passed on the first try. Any ideas for good Sales Cloud Cert resources?

    Best,

    Jono

    • JohnCoppedge March 23, 2014 at 10:56 pm #

      Hi Jono,

Thanks for the feedback – no, unfortunately I don’t have any specific recommendations at this point for Sales Cloud certification.

  29. Noel O Riordan March 25, 2014 at 9:36 am #

    Hi John,

    I passed ADM 201 yesterday.
This website proved a valuable resource and good value for $40.
Thanks for putting the resource together.

I did struggle however finding sample exams papers containing some questions that actually appear in the exam.
Thankfully my overall knowledge from this site proved enough to get me through.

    Regards,
    Noel

  30. Ivory Cox March 28, 2014 at 11:00 pm #

    Hi John…

I passed ADM 201 about three hours ago – on my first attempt!
I used your site as my primary study guide after learning about it on the ButtonClickAdmin.com site. We are fortunate that there are so many in the Salesforce community willing to guide us on our Salesforce journey. I’ve already recommended your site to a few coworkers – but will spread the word now that I’ve passed!!

Thank you for identifying the need – then working so hard to provide a solution!

    Thanks again…
    Ivory

    • JohnCoppedge April 11, 2014 at 3:39 pm #

Congrats Ivory! And thanks for spreading the word :)

    • gk zala March 25, 2015 at 12:02 pm #

      Hello John ,
please suggest me shall i go for exam i dont have practical work experience in SFDC .but u read a lot i just had 3 month work around experience in config and integration knowledge.

      • JohnCoppedge March 25, 2015 at 3:33 pm #

That’s really a personal experience – it is definitely possible to pass without practical experience, although it certainly helps!

  31. Allyson Clark April 8, 2014 at 6:10 pm #

    John,

Thank you so much for putting this site together! I passed my exam this morning on my second attempt. The first time I tried I had only taken ADM201 to prepare and it was not enough. I think anyone who devotes the time to go through all of the materials you’ve presented here will have a very good chance at getting certified. I actually wouldn’t be surprised if someone could pass the exam using just hands-on experience + CertifiedOnDemand and skipping the expensive ADM201 course altogether.

    Thanks again!
    Allyson

    • JohnCoppedge April 11, 2014 at 3:40 pm #

Congrats Allyson and thanks for the feedback! I in fact have never taken ADM201, so I can assure you it is quite possible :)

  32. Arindam Sutradhar April 11, 2014 at 2:28 pm #

    Hi John,

I am visiting this website for a few days now. I have read about the good reviews and the help people received from using this website for their certification exams. I am planning to take the admin certification exam and would like to purchase the entire study guide for $40. Before I do that could you please advise as to what is the best way to take maximum advantage of this portal. Is it going through each of the links on the study guide –> watching all the videos and read the hyperlinks on each page –> take the quizzes ? I just want to make sure I know what I am doing.

    • JohnCoppedge April 11, 2014 at 3:45 pm #

Study each objective, play with it your DE org. Ensure that you really understand the content behind each key fact. Then take the quiz for the section. Take the final quiz after you’ve studied the rest of the content. Good luck on the exam!

  33. Roger Grilo April 14, 2014 at 12:31 pm #

I took the Certified Administrator exam (WI14) in Spain and passed at first try. Can’t thank CertifiedOnDemand enough! It is by far THE BEST resource for passing ADM201, highly highly highly recommended.

John, please also do the guides for the other courses – DEV401, ADM211… We need you!!! :)

  34. Ann Gately April 14, 2014 at 7:16 pm #

Just passed, thanks John this site was a great help. :) Word of warning this is not an easy exam, you cannot over study.

  35. Engels Vargas April 21, 2014 at 6:46 pm #

I want to thank you John for putting together this very comprehensive study guide. I took the exam on Thursday and nailed it. This study guide was very helpful.

For those of you that are thinking about buying it, go ahead and buy it, besides being very well structured it also provides the information in an organized manner and you will not waste time researching topics on your own. You will learn a lot of core concepts and will understand well how Salesforce works. But as a word of caution. After you go through every Must link, quiz and scenario presented here, try to study the online quizzes and flashcards that are available out there. The questions in those quizzes will be very close in spirit to those that you will see on the Exam.

A little feedback for you John to make this site even more helpful:

1-It would be great if you create a section that groups all the quizzes and scenarios you give in every section. Having all of them organized in one place will make it easier for us to go over the quizzes for the final review.

2-The section for ideas, content and Communities is a little thin. There were a ton of questions on those topics and if you expand on them the way you’ve done in the other sections people will do even better.

Good luck to all of you taking the Exam, make sure you give yourself plenty of time to go over all the material found here and study the online quizzes.

    • JohnCoppedge April 26, 2014 at 9:49 pm #

      Hi Engles,

Thanks for the feedback, and CONGRATS on the pass!

I agree that referencing other materials is helpful – the only reason I have not linked to the flashcards and other practice exams is that I have found errors or inconsistencies (e.g. questionable wording) of some sort in every single one. It does help to get exposure to more types of questions. I will definitely consider adding something like this with a disclaimer. If you have a list of other materials that you found helpful please send them my way.

#1 – Have thought about that, will definitely consider this addition.

#2 – Thanks for the heads up. The site content is intentionally thin in those areas as the % of the exam is supposed to be very low (e.g. 2%). I think the overall weighting of questions has changed – with a lot more focus on mobile, communities, and other lightly weighted areas. I will address this with future content updates.

Thanks again for the feedback! Cheers,

      John

I have been a longtime user and worked as our admin with great success but never took the SFDC training course to become certified. Do I have to attend their class before taking the test or can I study and then take it. Do not want to drop $4250 for what I already know.

    • Allyson Clark May 7, 2014 at 2:47 pm #

I definitely believe you don’t need the SFDC course to pass the exam, especially if you have on-the-job experience. If I were you I’d pay $40 for CertifiedOnDemand and then $200 to take the exam. If you don’t pass, you’re only out $240 and you can always then go pay for the pricey SFDC course and then try to take the test again later.

  39. Catherine Lloyd May 8, 2014 at 9:27 pm #

Just passed today! I did feel unsure on many questions. However, because think this review guide goes more in depth than a flash card stack, I felt I had enough conceptual knowledge to muster 60%. Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge May 9, 2014 at 6:48 pm #

Congrats Catherine! Was there anything on the exam that wasn’t covered in depth on the guide?

  40. Tasnim Tailor May 9, 2014 at 2:57 pm #

    Hi John,

I’m targeting on ADM 201 exams by May end or June beginning. I’ve found your site quite useful and it bridges my knowledge gaps. I’m just concerned when would you updating it with Spring ’14 contents.

  41. anusha pudota May 9, 2014 at 6:37 pm #

    Hi John,

I have found this site very useful for ADM 201 exam. I am planning to buy the full study guide from CoD. Please let me know if I will be able to access further updated material once I bought this study guide? And also how long can I access it, is it unlimited or is there any time limit? Thanks for your effort to bring the whole ADM 201 topics together.

    • JohnCoppedge May 9, 2014 at 6:47 pm #

      Hi Anush,

Yes you will be able to access content as it is updated; access does not expire. Good luck! Cheers,

      John

    Hi John,

I cleared the ADM-201 (SP-14) earlier this week. I used your portal as the primary source of preparation. This is a wonderfully organized portal with all the relevant information required to clear the ADM-201 certification. Thank you so much!

Do you have anything similar for DEV-401 certification as well? If not do you know or recommend anything similar that could be used for preparing for the DEV-401 test? Thanks once again!

    • JohnCoppedge June 23, 2014 at 5:27 pm #

Excellent, congrats Arindam! No plans for Dev401 at this point, but I may in the future.

    Hi John,

I cleared my ADM 201 (SP-14) today on the first attempt. Thanks for creating such a wonderful, organized and to-the-point guide. And above all thanks for clarifying all my doubts :).

Thanks once again, Great work !!!

Thank you JohnCoppedge for providing this great resource to the community! I passed my exam and now I am certified! I think the practice test questions could me made to be more like the wording and the complexity of the exam questions. Your test questions are too easy. :-) Thanks again!

Awesome John, congrats! I’m actually somewhat surprised to hear that- the feedback I’ve gotten is that they were similar. If you can provide any context around the specifics of the questions/scenarios offered I will definitely take that into consideration!

    Hi John,
Please clarify on this. I booked my exam last week when it was showing SP14 .I booked it for August 14th. Will I be writing Sp14 exam or Su14 exam since by august 14th, salesforce would surely update the exam to SU14 ? Btw when are you planning to update summer 14 contents. Thanks :)

  52. Ray Zhao July 26, 2014 at 8:00 pm #

John, this is a great site to not only prepare for the exam, but also for some real gain on knowledge. Do you plan to get one for developers certification as well?

    • JohnCoppedge July 28, 2014 at 5:45 pm #

Once I have time, I would like to – no immediate plans. Thanks for the feedback Ray!

  53. Amy Martin August 4, 2014 at 6:47 pm #

Thanks SO MUCH for putting this together. I had 2 years of on-the-fly working knowledge of using/admining Salesforce, (on account of being a techy person doing development/fundraising in a small-ish nonprofit organization that had just started using it.) I went on my own recently as a consultant in nonprofit development, fundraising and information systems management, and wanted to pass the certified admin test in order to guide other nonprofits in best utilizing SF for their organizational needs. This guide was great, exactly what I needed to fill in some knowledge gaps, (especially considering that most nonprofit orgs don’t touch sales or service cloud, and use opportunities as donations, etc, etc, my working knowledge just didn’t have enough overlap w/the materials tested.) I mapped out my study over a few months, and passed the test (with comfortable confidence) on July 25th. Not only that, I now have a better big-picture understanding of how SF could be used for a variety of applications in the nonprofit world. I also plan on forwarding this study guide to the nonprofits I work for, as most of them are working with few resources, and understanding the SF system on their own is their best bet in adopting it for their own use. Nice work, and thanks again!

    • JohnCoppedge August 4, 2014 at 9:30 pm #

Awesome, thanks for sharing your story Amy. And congrats on passing the exam! These is the kind of feedback that keeps this site going! :)

    • Monica Jokiman April 20, 2015 at 4:21 pm #

HI Amy, I work for a non profit and planning to take the ADM201 exam during Dreamforce. I’ve started studying (attended the online training, watching videos, going over sample quizzes, etc) but I’m having a hard time grasping some of the concepts for the reason you mentioned above–knowledge gap–since in non profit we don’t use some of the objects/fields that most everyone else used in a regular basis. Plus, I’m only managing 40+ users, not the hundreds like other admins do so I feel that my hands on experience is somewhat limited compared to other admins in the sales industry.
Do you have any tips/advice that can help me to cover those gaps? I’m planning to purchase this guide but wondering if there’s anything that can help us in the non profit world :)

      Thanks…

Please consider adding this Salesforce limits cheat sheet at appropriate place in this study guide, I guess it would help those preparing for certifications.

Excellent site, I think a lot of the information is great for the Salesforce Developer exam/certification too.

I created a post to help people pass the Salesforce Developer DEV-401 exam (http://cloudsocius.com/pass-salesforce-developer-dev-401-exam-free/) to get certified and have reference much of the Certified on Demand content.

    Hello,

I plan to sit for the admin exam on November 24, 2014. I am a bit confused on what release I should focus on. Can you please guide me in the right direction? Below are the dates I found on the Salesforce website (http://certification.salesforce.com/schedules). I assume that I should focus on Summer ’14 but your guide is updated to Spring ’14? . Thank you in advance for your help.

Release Exam Date Available Completion Deadline
    ————————————————————————————
    Winter ’14 Available now July 18, 2014
    Spring ’14 Available now October 31, 2014
    Summer ’14 Available now February 27, 2015
    Winter ’15 November 3, 2014 June 26, 2015

    • JohnCoppedge September 5, 2014 at 12:40 am #

I would just start on the guide. The releases won’t impact the content very much, and the final section has links to release training to ensure you’re covered for the latest versions.

John, I just passed the SFDC Admin test! Due in large part to this site. Thanks for putting this together. Great material. Great layout and resources.

  62. Odelya Bouganim September 14, 2014 at 2:56 pm #

    Hi,
I am new with SFDC and I have a few questions, can someone please help ? :-)
    1. Where can I get more information on the exam itself? is it an online test or should I physically attend the test in a desiganted location?
    2. How long the exam takes?
    3. How much time should pass from one test to the other in case of a failur ?

Thanks in Advance to anyone who can give some info!

    • JohnCoppedge September 17, 2014 at 7:22 pm #

      1. check the sfdc website – the study guide will have the official info
      2. 90 minutes
      3. check study guide – I don’t believe there are any time restrictions but each retake will cost you $100 and there is no indication of why you failed

      • Odelya Bouganim September 23, 2014 at 10:40 am #

        Thanks John!

Just another matter to make sure I am on the right page…
What is the official name of the certification? ADM-201 right?
I looked at the exam registration website and the exam is called SU14, does it mean that the certification is ADM-201 but up to Summer 14 Release ?
Besides, does your course cover the certified admin only or the advanced admin too?

        Thanks again !
        Odelya

        • JohnCoppedge September 27, 2014 at 7:36 pm #

Only regular admin (adm201)- and yes SU would likely mean the summer version of the exam.

    Hi John,

Just wanted to say thank you for this guide as I believe it was THE resource that helped me PASS my ADM 201 exam this weekend. Having all the materials in one location in this organized manner was key for me. I was on the site every night going through the subjects. The practice exam was just what I needed (I could’ve used a few more of those just for more practice) but it obviously worked with just one. Anyone who tells me they want to get certified I will absolutely tell them to use this site. Thanks again!

  70. mahalakshmi martin October 8, 2014 at 11:18 pm #

    Hi
Please let me know if the materials listed here in this site is enough to pass the exam? Do we need to get extra support from other books
please advice.Since am new to Salesforce i am very curious

    • JohnCoppedge October 14, 2014 at 1:43 am #

This site will show you all of the content that you need to learn in a format that you can use to prepare for certification – you may choose to use additional resources if you want but it isn’t required.

  71. Catherine Fefolt October 14, 2014 at 5:15 pm #

John, I can’t thank you enough for creating this amazing guide. I just passed my Administrator exam and it is greatly due to your guide.

For new admins –CertifiedonDemand.com really gives you the right amount of coverage on each subject and it really highlights every single topic that is covered on the test–even App Exchange! I highly recommend all the training videos from John and SFDC, and to really know your terms and take those practice exams! The most important thing is to NOT overthink the exam, and to focus on all the most important things highlighted in the high-weighted topics.

For experienced admins who are going to take the exam–I have been an admin for 5 years and I was confident that I would pass until I took COD’s practice exam. I quickly identified my strengths and then moved on to improving my weaknesses through the guide.

    Thanks again!

    • JohnCoppedge October 16, 2014 at 1:13 am #

  74. Patti Nelson October 21, 2014 at 11:10 pm #

    Hi John,

Another very satisfied customer here. I passed my exam this morning! I participated in a peer-led study group which was a great help, but I also used your site very heavily. I agree with Catherine above, who said that the coverage was good. I found the weighting for the various topics to be spot on. Your videos and resources were great, but one of the most helpful things to me was the “Key facts” for each topic. I reviewed all of these just before going into the exam, and it really gave me confidence. Oh, and the sample test was great – it helped me see where I needed to focus more. I found your answer section to the sample test to be a great study tool on its own.

    Thank you!

    Patti

    • JohnCoppedge October 23, 2014 at 1:03 am #

Wow, thanks Patti. I can’t ask for better feedback. Glad the site helped and more importantly – congrats on the pass! :)

    Hi,

I am planning for ADM 201 in the month of Jan 2015. IS this study material upto date for that exam ?
Is there any pre requisite book that i need to read before studying this material?

    • JohnCoppedge November 5, 2014 at 8:15 pm #

For releases not included in the materials, there are links to release information within the guide – so you will be covered one way or another. No there are no pre-requisites, best to jump in deep end head first :)

  78. Mark Thomas October 27, 2014 at 5:29 pm #

    Hi John,

Thanks for the site. I’ve been working my way through the site, but have been experiencing some login issues today. As I proceed from one section to the next, I keep getting logged out. Right now I just finished the User Interface section. Any thoughts?

    • JohnCoppedge November 5, 2014 at 8:17 pm #

There are hiccups on rare occasions – if it doesn’t clear up within a few hours, I will have heard about it! :) This site is cloud hosted and the provider does a pretty solid job on maintenance and reliability.

  79. Rene Hernandez October 27, 2014 at 7:04 pm #

Hi John, thank you very much for this site. I passed the Admin 201 exam this past weekend and I owe it largely to this amazing resource. Keep things the way they are. My only feedback would be to create another practice test, perhaps 60 questions. Otherwise, I could not have done it without you!

To others who are planning on taking the exam, here is what I did for my studies. Everyone has different techniques, but this is what worked for me.
    1. On this site, go through the COULD sections as well. They really reinforce knowledge.
    2. Developer Org is your best friend – Nothing beats hands on experience. As you go through the lessons, keep your Dev Org open.
    3. Hand written notes – Yes, you read that correctly. I wrote points and reminders on paper. Ended up with around 35 pages to review before the exam.
    4. Mentor – I found a remote mentor on Elance.com and scheduled bi-weekly reviews for stuff that I needed help with. Specifically, my mentors name was Trevor Lobel. He is a Certified Salesforce Admin.
    5. 2 months of studying (Final 2 weeks of intense reviews prior to writing the exam) – I lived and breathed Salesforce daily during the last 2 weeks.
    6. Salesforce Free Training Videos – Make sure to go through these https://help.salesforce.com/apex/HTHome
    7. Dreamforce Admin Essentials – Look for these in Youtube and pick out ones that you need assistance with

Cheers, and good luck to everyone scheduled to take the exam. =)

    Rene

    • JohnCoppedge November 5, 2014 at 8:24 pm #

Thanks for the feedback Rene- and congrats!

Trevor is awesome, I’m glad he proved to be a great mentor! I’ve toyed with the idea of the mentoring model, but haven’t really cracked the nut of how to provide the service in an affordable and scalable fashion. Here’s the link to his profile if anyone else wants to use this option: https://www.elance.com/s/trevorhlobel/

I will need to look at #6/7 – I think the content to each is referenced at points in this guide, but good to have the checklist.

And #5 is key – I always immerse myself prior to an exam as well.

  80. Cynthia Thomas October 27, 2014 at 9:45 pm #

I too am gunning for the Adm 201 exam in Jan 2015. Any other resource or Certified on Demand areas specifically up to date for a Jan 2015 exam date?

  82. Mary Catherine Cain October 28, 2014 at 10:40 pm #

Taking my exam tomorrow morning! Feeling confident thanks to this site!

Takings tests in general make me nervous!!

  83. Gavin Powell October 29, 2014 at 10:24 pm #

    Hi John,

Thank you for this awesome study guide. I believe it surveys all the information very well.
I took my certification exam and PASSED! Wahoo!

I like Mary above get rather nervous taking tests.

I took the ADM – 201 course a year ago and have been administrating for a non-profit ever since. Although that class gave me a solid base, I would say that it leaves a majority of what the Certification Exam covers out of its curriculum. This study guide was a huge help in covering the service cloud and all the extra features that go unmentioned in the training. I started chipping away a couple of hours here and there a few week before the exam and made sure I finished every module about 3 days out from the exam. In those three days I went back through all the overview sections of each module taking notes and making flash cards.

The exam is fair and this guide completely prepares you for it. The practice quizzes are practically identical in format to the ones on the actual test. This made the test center seem much more comfortable.

    Thanks again

  84. Katherine Jones October 30, 2014 at 12:01 pm #

John, another Thank You! from a very satisfied customer. I came to your site after having already failed the exam twice, but passed after using your tool. Absolutely you covered information on your site that the online 201 Salesforce U Admin class never even mentioned. I felt your practice test was also the best one out there. If I were going to give anyone advice, it would be to make sure you are rock solid on Security Model (Profiles vs Roles and when to use each one) before even attempting the test.

    • JohnCoppedge November 5, 2014 at 9:18 pm #

Thanks Katherine, that’s solid advice and huge component of the exam. Congrats on passing!

Hi Varun – not sure if you posted elsewhere on the site or emailed. Site is current to Winter 14 but includes references to the release training to ensure there are no gaps. It will be updated in the future. The vast majority of the content does not get changed from release to to release.

I passed the 201 certification test last month and am glad that the information here provided me with the additional resources needed outside of the 201 Admin class. It was taking me forever in the beginning to search for the additional information in the Help section of Salesforce.com and figuring out what documents to study and what not to study was overwhelming. Thanks for bringing it all together here. I do recommend to anyone using this site to be sure to read the latest release notes for releases that are not covered in this guide prior to the test!!

  88. Gustavo Vieira November 6, 2014 at 1:09 am #

I have taken the ADM201 once and failed… I recently acquired this program and am now starting to use it to study(dont tell my boss, lol)… I look forward to taking my test on 25 Nov 2014 and reporting back on this material.

Good luck to all of those who are studying as well.

Hi John, Thanks for this great guide– I passed today, first try! Your guide was the number one reason I knew what to study and felt comfortable with the questions. I’m going to recommend it to clients who just want to be better admins, let alone pass the exam!

  94. Dhirendra Basnyat November 16, 2014 at 11:14 pm #

I am new to Slaesforce and I am learning on my own. I have used in different application such as Remedy and BMC Magic I do understand the workflow. I have gone and read all the main topic how John describe on the certified on demand web site now I am planning to give the test next week any other suggestions?
    Thx
    Dhirendra

Hey John. I wanted to thank you for this site. I passed the ADM 201 last week. Your excellent guides walked me through where to focus my efforts. Thank you again.

  96. kimberly dale November 20, 2014 at 6:42 pm #

Is there a particular study guide for advanced admin certification or does this cover both

    • JohnCoppedge November 20, 2014 at 10:36 pm #

This guide is designed for admin certification – it will of course cover many topics that are also included in advanced administration but will not cover all of the topics for advanced admin.

  97. Donal Morrissey November 22, 2014 at 3:27 pm #

John, what material do I get access to with the $40 subscription, that I do not get with the free version?

  98. Chris Lagarde November 23, 2014 at 7:18 am #

    John –
Thanks for creating CertifiedOnDemand (COD). Well worth the minimal investment. I passed the Admin certification (ADM201) recently. Your course steered me back to home port every time I got a bit crazy from studying Salesforce. COD is a focused study tool for passing ADM201 and sooo worth it!

  99. Divyendra Naidu November 25, 2014 at 9:12 pm #

I used this to prepare for approximately 3 days (only previous study being building the recruiting app from Force developer workbook)- and passed ADM 201 today. Sterling job with this website. Can’t thank you enough.

I would be sure to buy a similar package from you for Sales and Service cloud if you made one . Thanks again!

  100. kimberly dale November 25, 2014 at 10:52 pm #

    Good Job Divyendra!!

  101. Donald Bohrisch November 26, 2014 at 3:24 am #

Granted I did not get a chance to complete this course I still greatly appreciated the work you did to put it together! It was well researched and presented. I have recomended it to others that I know who are working on becoming Salesforce Admins!

As of 1300 Pacific today I am now a CERTIFIED SALESFORCE ADMINISTRATOR 😀

If anyone has any questions hit me on LinkedIn.

    • Donald Bohrisch November 26, 2014 at 3:26 am #

Also… do you have an Advanced Admin, Sales/Service Cloud, Dev 401, or Dev 501 study guide like this… if so how much and where at?

      • JohnCoppedge November 28, 2014 at 2:53 am #

Nice Donald, congrats! And thanks for the feedback. No other guides at this stage… maybe some day!

  102. Sean Geary November 27, 2014 at 1:33 am #

Passed my admin handily thanks in large part to this guide.

Do Dev next, and please hurry. I’m studying now! 😉

    Thanks, fully stoked!

    • JohnCoppedge November 28, 2014 at 2:54 am #

Awesome congrats Sean! There’s a lot of overlap between dev and admin… maybe will do another guide of one these days :)

  103. Dustin Kunz December 4, 2014 at 3:56 pm #

John, this study guide was INCREDIBLE. The only “training” I’ve had is this study guide, experience with my instance, and I think I created the Warehouse App once on a Sunday. I passed my Admin test without blinking, and a few weeks later took my Dev exam at Dreamforce and (I’m sure just barely) passed it, largely b/c the data model & security stuff I studied here transferred over so well.

I’m spreading your praises to everyone that will listen, and my spring intern will be required to purchase your full guide!

    -Dustin Kunz-

    • JohnCoppedge December 5, 2014 at 3:37 am #

Awesome, thank you Dustin, always appreciate this kind of feedback :) And congrats on both exams!

  104. Beshaunn Jno-Baptiste December 9, 2014 at 2:31 pm #

John, I just want to join the lot that are thanking you for this awesome study guide. I took the Certified Admin exam on the 5th of December and I PASSED! The vast majority of my studying involved using your study guide. I went through every single chapter, did every exercise, every scenario, and every practice quiz. Then, I took the practice exam twice. This study guide helped me to get a good understanding of what to expect in the actual exam.

    -Cheers to you, John!

  105. Heinz Qin December 11, 2014 at 8:42 pm #

I just purchased the guide, and wonder if you have PDF for downloading?

    • JohnCoppedge December 11, 2014 at 8:46 pm #

      Hi Heinz,

Unfortunately no- everything is available online only at this time. Cheers,

      John

    Hello John,
I passed the Salesforce ADM201 exam yesterday! Many thanks for putting this site together. The materials in this site were instrumental in preparing me for the exam. I probably wouldn’t have known all of the essential concepts to focus on and study without this site. Its well worth the price.

    Thanks,
    Bill

  107. Shubham Gupta December 12, 2014 at 4:20 am #

I passed my admin exam in the first go. Thank you so much John. This website is amazing and made the test look so easy ! Thanks

  108. Shubham Gupta December 12, 2014 at 4:41 am #

John also do u have any recommendation for dev 401?

    • JohnCoppedge December 14, 2014 at 3:38 pm #

Much of this guide will apply to Dev 401, but other than that I do not have any specific resources I’m afraid.

  109. Heinz Qin December 12, 2014 at 10:45 pm #

    Hi John,

is the Sales Cloud > ◦Lead Assignment Rules part of the guid? When I click the link I just got a blank browser window. I tried IE and chrome.

    Hi,
I would like to purchase the study guide as Im planning to give an exam soon (201 and 401 right after that). My concern is, whether the data is updated according to the updates or not?

Also, I tried looking for the promo Code to purchase, I couldnt fine any. 😉

    Waiting for your response.

Actually, I bought it right after leaving the comments as I found one of such related comments.
Going through it, your work is amazing.

        Happy Holidays!!

  111. Krishnakumar Narasimhan December 17, 2014 at 9:11 pm #

Hi those who already passed…..what is the average preparation time in hours? is this material include Winter 15 release scope ?

    thanks

    Krishna

    • Donald Bohrisch December 17, 2014 at 9:37 pm #

Good afternoon, I would say that really depends on your past experience and how much you already know about SalesForce. For me I actually skimmed over most of it and passed… I do plan on going back over it tho as part of my preparation for my Dev401, especially the Security part.

My original plan was to spend roughly 1 evening on each chapter…

      Good luck!

    • Anuj Patel December 18, 2014 at 1:31 am #

Yes, they covered winter 15 release.

  112. Krishnakumar Narasimhan December 18, 2014 at 2:01 am #

@Don, @Anuj: hanks for your responses. I have a date in mind and let’s see how it works out

    Hi,

Is there any indication or label advising what materials are new? I began my studies but I am not sure what materials are new or not. Thank you so much for the update.

    Thanks,
    Synthia

  114. Ryan MacDougall December 20, 2014 at 9:50 pm #

    Hi,

I purchased your study guide via PayPal, and it has yet to allow me access to the “non-free” information. How long does it usually take to gain access?

    • JohnCoppedge December 20, 2014 at 10:47 pm #

As soon as funds clear, access is granted. Got a notice from paypal that you paid through an echeck which can take 6-8 days to clear. If you would like access sooner, I would cancel the echeck and use a credit card which clears immediately.

      • Ryan MacDougall December 20, 2014 at 11:36 pm #

Yes, if you could cancel the eCheck that would be great. I didn’t realize I didn’t have my CC attached to my PayPal.

        • JohnCoppedge December 22, 2014 at 2:15 pm #

It doesn’t look I like I can cancel it until the payment is complete – I would try to cancel from your end and sign up again. If it ends up going through twice just let me know and I will refund one.

  115. Vasu Sanghani December 21, 2014 at 8:36 pm #

why does it say, login, even when I am logged in? Do I need to do something different?

    • JohnCoppedge December 22, 2014 at 2:09 pm #

If you are accessing a paid portion of the site and you have a free account, then it will ask you to login or redirect you to buy the guide

  116. Vasu Sanghani December 22, 2014 at 9:27 pm #

Thanks John. I paid for it.

  117. Henry Ho December 23, 2014 at 3:46 pm #

    Hi John,

I have been using/administrating with SugarCRM for several years, this includes design, setting up layouts and custom fields to customize to the business processes and develop SQL queries reports to run against SugarCRM database. Since Salesforce and SugarCRM shares many similarities, will the lessons you created be sufficient to passing the Salesforce admin certification exam? There are so many content to the web, too many books to fiddle around, our time is limited. I would love to get your insight.

    • JohnCoppedge December 23, 2014 at 5:05 pm #

I haven’t used Sugar, so I can’t really comment unfortunately. Ultimately this site will provide you with the framework to understand what you need to learn – how long that process takes has a lot of variables. That said your prior experience should be a strong asset.

  118. Beatrice Ray December 26, 2014 at 8:43 pm #

Passed my exam this morning and my only study material was your site. Thank you for putting this information together!

  119. Shannon Mastrangelo December 30, 2014 at 10:12 pm #

This was the perfect resource!!! I attended training (over a year ago now) and this by far was more helpful in helping prepare for the exam. The way the content was laid out and the videos got right to the point of what is needed to pass the test. I have been working as an admin for a year now, but studying for the test can be slightly different then the practicle application in a well established SF org. For anyone looking to get certified this is the only resource I would recommend.

Thank you again – I credit this site for the passing of my test today1!!

  120. Federico Carducci January 4, 2015 at 8:34 pm #

Taking the exam in a few hours! Wish me luck

  121. Federico Carducci January 5, 2015 at 6:06 pm #

    I Passed!!!

John, I have loved this resource. I had to cram my exam prep into 4 very rough days – little sleep, little food and perhaps a wheelbarrow full of tobacco (I wouldn’t recommend it). Nevertheless this site helped me get my head around salesforce and I am so happy I passed the exam. Now I can get back to my normal self :)

Its a shame you don’t get to see your score afterwards though… :/ Cheers everyone.

    Hi,

Is the only difference in the new exam compared to the old exam Salesforce1 and SalesforceA from earlier Mobile/Lite setup? Or are there more changes ?

    Thanks,
    Synthia

    • JohnCoppedge January 13, 2015 at 12:41 am #

I’m sure there are other minor differences, but the admin exam has not changed drastically over the years. You could compare historical study guides to review the differences…

    Hi John,

I passed the Certified Salesforce Administrator exam today and wanted to thank you for putting this great site together for the ADM 201 certification. This site has helped me in preparing well for this exam. Very exhaustive and very helpful for taking the exam.

    Hi John ,
I passed the ADM 201 exam on Jan3,2015. Your site is Awesome. You have succinctly explained all the required concepts. I am planning on taking the DEV exam as well. Please advice me on the additional topics that should be covered apart from the ones in your material for ADM 201.

    • JohnCoppedge January 13, 2015 at 12:37 am #

I don’t have any specific advise for DEV401- I would compare the Salesforce study guide and see overlaps. There should be quite a bit that does.

  126. Vasu Sanghani January 8, 2015 at 1:22 am #

Everyone. … I passed today! John, thanks for your site and the quick responses to any questions I had. Now I want to take the 401. Any suggestions ? Would recommend this site to anyone- exceptional!!!

  132. Muhammad Yamin January 25, 2015 at 8:41 pm #

Hi John – I came across your site recently and it’s great. I’m going topic by topic here – just noticed that the topics on your site don’t directly correspond to the SFDC Study Guide topics… is that going to be a problem if I follow your site instead of the study guide? Thanks.

    • JohnCoppedge January 26, 2015 at 3:52 pm #

No, that is intentional to some extent. I used the study guide as a starting, but there is some intentional divergence. Anything in the SFDC study guide should be covered on this site though.

  133. Muhammad Yamin January 27, 2015 at 3:22 am #

    Thanks.

  134. Ashley Bell January 30, 2015 at 8:40 pm #

    Hi John,
Is there a printable version of the study guide?

    • JohnCoppedge January 30, 2015 at 10:59 pm #

Sorry, no – it is designed for online delivery so that it can be easily updated.

  135. Mirjam Martin February 3, 2015 at 9:34 am #

All I can say, £26 well spend. Pass my exam yesterday. Could I have done this without this website? Perhaps, but certainly it would have taken me longer and the prep would have been less complete. My only wish would be more mock exams. Either way, thanks.

    • JohnCoppedge February 3, 2015 at 4:44 pm #

Thanks Mirjam – appreciate the feedback. Adding questions is top on my list. Congrats on the pass!

  137. Thomas Huff February 5, 2015 at 3:41 pm #

    Hey John:

Just took and passed the exam yesterday.

A very great deal of that success is due to this site.

Best part of COD is you weighted the study material here very closely to the amount of questions for each topic on the test- that is to say, the more study material here, the more questions regarding that topic on the exam.

    Well done, and thanks!

  138. Erik Laramee February 8, 2015 at 7:55 pm #

I passed my exam back in December. I failed it the first time but passed on the next round. This guide was definitely a big help. The weighting and topic focus were key factors. Actual exam questions were more nuanced but I’m not sure how that could be improved, they are mock exams after all. My suggestion for would-be exam takers would be to really pay attention to the reports and dashboards, go through and create several of them in your developer instance. I think that’s mostly what I tanked on my first try!

Another thing – if you have time, write down the questions you feel you are completely guessing on (they give you paper and pencil). I may have gotten lucky but when I went back in for my second exam I swear I got several of the exact same questions from the first round that I was unsure on. In my case it obviously helped a great deal that I studied up on those.

Any suggestions for Dev 401 study resources? Big thanks. $40 well spent!

    • Mark Davis February 9, 2015 at 7:16 pm #

Interesting that you mention the importance of “Reports and Dashboards”. I wondered if this topic was necessary to know for the exam. Is there any guidance in the Study Guide Table of Contents around this topic?

      • JohnCoppedge February 9, 2015 at 7:50 pm #

Reports and dashboards are 13% of the exam according to the latest study guide. I definitely agree with Erik – they are harder to prepare for; the best way to prep may be to just start building them.

    • JohnCoppedge February 9, 2015 at 7:47 pm #

No suggestions off the top of my head for DEV – most of the topics are covered in the admin exam luckily though. Thanks for the feedback – that helps, and congrats on passing!

Hi John, I took the Admin Certification and passed with flying colors! Thank you for such a great study guide. I was wondering if you have any recommendations or other sites that support the other Certifications? I specifically want to get the Certified Sales Cloud Consultant or Advanced Admin, let me know if you have any suggestions – I appreciate it! Thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge February 17, 2015 at 2:17 pm #

Congrats Taylor! I haven’t searched specifically in a while for those exams, so unfortunately I don’t have any specific advice. Good luck! Feel free to post back if you find some good resources, I’d be happy to set up a page to share the info.

    Hi John,

I had asked a question regarding Salesforce – study starting from where? As I am dynamics CRM consultant.

I am not able to find that question and answer. How do I do that?

    • JohnCoppedge March 3, 2015 at 6:01 pm #

The best way is to get experience, and/or training, while studying for the admin exam simultaneously. When in doubt, yes – start studying!

  146. Dave Holford March 4, 2015 at 12:04 pm #

    Hey John,

Just wanted to let you know I passed my ADM-201 and in all honesty it was hard, but not as difficult as I expected. That I attribute primarily to the thoroughness of the content on this site.

If there was one key point I learnt whilst working my way through the content on this site, it was THOROUGHLY read and UNDERSTAND the question being asked. The questions in the exams are worded very cleverly and a single word in a paragraph may either be a clue or it may be a ruse to throw you (can cite a pearler I got today that I can pass on to add in the quizzes or practice exam). Once you ‘get’ the way they structure their questions and answers, it is actually pretty easy.

BTW, I’ve already recommended this site on to 2 colleagues that already have 401 and 501 but are too scared to do 201. :-)

If there was one recommendation I could make to really improve the site, it would be more scenarios and loads more questions based on the scenarios….otherwise, it’s the best ADM-201 resource out there.

Looking forward to seeing the 501 and 301 sites soon. 😉

    • JohnCoppedge March 4, 2015 at 8:23 pm #

Hey Dave and congrats! I definitely have a number of improvements I would like to make, thanks for the feedback!

Great resource. Planing to seat for exam with in 2 weeks. One quick question. Is this updated materiel which will cover Spring 15? Thanks in advance.

    Cheers

Winter 15 yes, Spring 15 no. Make sure to read the release notes. It will be updated shortly.

  153. James MacRae March 11, 2015 at 4:54 pm #

Passed my ADM201 last week. An excellent resource, well structured, good content and the practice exam is brilliant. My advice would be definitely dont do the practice exam until youve covered all the sections on the site. There arent many other good examples of practice exams like the one on this site.

    • JohnCoppedge March 12, 2015 at 8:00 pm #

Thanks James appreciate the positive feedback. And congrats on passing! And yes- I definitely advocate the same, don’t take the practice test until you are ready to see if you are ready for the real exam.

  154. aey thomas March 11, 2015 at 6:05 pm #

I just pass my exam. Your site help me a lot to focus on what to study. Thank you

  155. Lisa Kessler March 12, 2015 at 10:23 pm #

I passed my exam today on the first try. This site was a huge help. I took your 30 question practice exam today before ADM201 and scored 77% so I felt confident going into the testing center. I found that your organization and presentation of the information complemented that provided by SF, and in some cases was actually superior to it. Good job and thanks!

It is updated for Winter 15 but not Spring 15 – I would read through the release notes. Good luck!

Hey.. I have to take the exam within this Month.
Do I need to go through Spring’15 too separately apart from this site?
And Is there any chance that you would update the Spring’15 on the site too?

    • JohnCoppedge March 15, 2015 at 6:45 pm #

Yes, I will be updating this site. I don’t have a time frame yet. You should review the Spring 15 release notes – you won’t need to re-learn anything just make not of any important developments in the release. The core platform (what most of the admin exam focuses on) typically changes little between releases.

      • Rena Bennett-Dellwo March 17, 2015 at 4:15 pm #

Would we need to go through the entire contents of the release notes or just the notes that they say need to be reviewed for the ongoing re-certification process? If the latter, how do we get to them? And, is there a way to find out when Spring ’15 will be included in the exam? (I’m taking mine in May.) Thanks!

        • JohnCoppedge March 18, 2015 at 6:18 am #

You can tell when you register for the exam, it will tell you which version you are registering for. You should really only need to skim the release notes to understand what updates were included with the release. New exam registrations should be for Spring 15.

  159. Karthik Srinivasan March 20, 2015 at 8:13 pm #

From the bottom of my heart i want to thank John for the great work you have done on this site that has helped me clear the salesforce admin exam on my first attempt.

This is THE source for admin exam prep period. For all practical reasons, one can treat this as the official study guide for the ADM 201 exam.

If you want to do the certification the right way ( i.e. learn and understand the platform in detail), this is the one stop shop. It is worth way more than the paltry fee John charges.

The biggest challenge to prep for this exam is the fact that the study material is scattered all over the place(internet) and the data is not up-to-date. Given this, what John has done here is no less than a commendable social service initiative for people trying to get certified :)

When i look back at this site, i realize that putting together something like this and maintaining it requires hard work, dedication, persistence, continued enthusiasm . What a great job John has done here!!

The content created by John is amazing and also the collection of suggested links, videos is apt. On top of that i would recommend the folks to go through comments section on each topic page. Some great discussions and insights from the user community.

Thanks a ton John and all the users who posted comments on this site. I loved the preparation experience.

In the end, I was prepared well enough and the actual exam was a breeze and turned out to be a bit of a damp squib for me( i was expecting a tougher test) !! :)

Thanks once again John, keep up the great work.

    • JohnCoppedge March 25, 2015 at 4:40 pm #

      Hey Karthik,

Just wanted to say thanks for the feedback, really appreciated. This kind of feedback keeps this site going, and it does take quite a lot of work even to maintain it. Congrats on passing as well, much better to walk in over prepared :)

      Cheers,

      John

    John

I found the 30 Q exam at the end of the study trail on this site more worthwhile than the actual exam, once again great job putting those good questions together.

    thanks once again.

Just passed my admin certification exam this morning on the first try and I know that this site was a huge part of that success. Big thanks to John for putting all these materials together in one place. Without this site I never could have it done. This info was way more in-depth in than my Admin-201 class. Thanks!

  162. Megha Sapra March 27, 2015 at 3:56 am #

I passed my admin certification exam on the first try..thank you John for this great material and support.
Now my next target is Dev- 401 and Adm-211. Are you planning to come up with these certification material also?

    • gk zala March 27, 2015 at 4:55 am #

Hello Megha can you guide me how much working experience require for SFDC Admin.please share you material if you can,

      • Megha Sapra March 27, 2015 at 11:28 am #

Hi, I studied the material available on this site. What i have experience is all the questions are totally based on the practical knowledge you have. There was no direct question and you have to think logically. But if you study the material, concepts will be cleared and it will help you to understand better.

    • JohnCoppedge March 27, 2015 at 4:41 pm #

      Hey Megha,

Congrats! No plans at this stage to launch other guides, although this is definitely something I am considering for the future.

Today I passed the ADM 201 Exam. Thank you so very much for creating this site. It was a HUGE help. Now on to the DEV 401 :-)

  164. Syed Khadri March 29, 2015 at 5:36 am #

    Dear John.
I am currently working on Kerridge Systems Autoline CRM and have no knowledge of Salesforce. Basically have never taken any classes or training course to understand it. I have worked on SAP SD though long time back(Admin). I just want to know, is it sufficient for me to learn from your guide or should i take classes and then come back to your guide after i practice the basics?

    • JohnCoppedge March 30, 2015 at 1:22 pm #

      Hi Syed,

You can learn and pass the admin exam with nothing more than Salesforce documentation. I did in 2008 (although admittedly it was less complex back then). Ultimately CoD will help dramatically speed up this process. If you have access ($) to in person training or premier training (also through Salesforce), I highly recommend using them. If you can get on the job experience, even better. I would use CoD in conjunction with any/all other resources you have available – this will help you learn the fastest. To answer your question though, yes, CoD alone will present all of the information that you need to pass the exam – it is simply up to you absorb it all.

      Cheers,

      John

  165. Anis Shaikh March 31, 2015 at 4:23 pm #

    Hi John,

I passed the ADM 201 yesterday on my first attempt. Your website was very helpful for my preparation. This is the best resource for Admin certification I have found on the internet. Sample questions at the end of each section as well as the overall 30 question test is quite beneficial (I got 26 out of 30 questions correct on the test after I completed my preparation). This website helps in understanding the platform in detail which is necessary, since the exam is full of scenario based questions.

I would recommend this site to anyone looking to get themselves ADM 201 certified.

    Keep up the good work!

    Regards,
    Anis

    • JohnCoppedge March 31, 2015 at 4:35 pm #

Congrats Anis! And thanks for the feedback – definitely helps keep this site alive and thriving!

    Hey John,

I just passed my ADM 201 on my first attempt and wanted to thank you for the awesome, comprehensive and up-to-date resource you have created. Saved me from getting lost in the all the weeds of information out there, if you know what I mean! :)

Thanks for all the hard work – one of the best $40 purchases I made!

      Hello Manisha,
I am planning to seat for the Adm 201 exam, could you tell what is the time frame to study and take the exam. for example 3-6months?

      • JohnCoppedge April 10, 2015 at 4:05 am #

Depends on a lot of variables… estimate: best case 2-3 weeks, worst case 3-6 months.

Just wondering when the update for spring’15 will be available. I am planning to appear for the exam in next 2 weeks.

    • Rena Bennett-Dellwo April 8, 2015 at 1:25 pm #

      Hi John,

To add to Anup’s question… Now that the certification release training notes are available (https://help.salesforce.com/HTTrainingModulesDetail?courseId=a1S30000000j5WrEAI), would these be what we base our studying on if you haven’t had a chance to update your site?

      Thanks,
      Rena

      • JohnCoppedge April 10, 2015 at 4:09 am #

Yes I would base your studying off of the release training but also review the release notes. The changes are usually fairly minimal… will update as soon as I have a chance.

    • JohnCoppedge April 14, 2015 at 2:10 am #

No date set but as soon as possible. Review the release training from SFDC and release notes, you’ll be good to go.

Is there a problem with the login?

  176. Traci Whetzel April 20, 2015 at 7:47 pm #

    John –

This website was a tremendous help! Thank you so much, I passed this morning. I have been using SFDC for many years and have implemented the solution for various customers. However, it was hard to FOCUS on studying when I knew a lot of the material already. Your site helped a great deal in that area. Question for you – do you have any sites, study materials that you can recommend for the Sales Cloud Consultant Certification. Also, could you compare the difficulty to that of the admin?

  177. Jessica Thomas April 20, 2015 at 10:48 pm #

    Good Morning,
I am hoping you can tell me approx. how many hours are required to get through all the content on this site?
    Many Thanks,
    Jess

    • JohnCoppedge April 21, 2015 at 1:55 pm #

Weeks to months depending on how thoroughly you explore each area – it is more of a framework for studying than a traditional curriculum.

  178. Tim Weeks April 21, 2015 at 5:12 pm #

John, a final shout-out to what an amazing resource you have developed. I took my ADM201 exam this morning and passed!

  179. Amy Worrall-Thompson April 27, 2015 at 12:01 pm #

Hi John, just wanted to thank you for this site!
I passed my 201 exam on Friday and it really helped having all the resources in one place organised so well. One thing I would say though is that the questions on the actual exam were very detailed, so my advice to anyone about to sit the exam would be to look at EVERYTHING! Don’t skip the ‘could’ sections because some of the questions really came out of left-field and I got thrown by how many were on very individual facts about certain features. Overall though I don’t think I would’ve passed without your site, so thank you.
    Amy

    • JohnCoppedge April 28, 2015 at 2:46 pm #

      Hi Amy,

My understanding was that the exam was much more situation-oriented rather than being able to reiterate facts – has that changed? Do you recall any particular subjects that were more important than others? Thanks for the feedback and congrats!

      John

      • Amy Worrall-Thompson May 12, 2015 at 2:26 pm #

        Hi John,

Some of the questions were situation based, but a lot were very much “what does this do?”, or “which features are found here?”, the answer options to which were more specific than I was expecting. I had quite a number of questions on reports and dashboards, what seemed like more than a couple on Chatter and I think a few on record types…. It’s difficult to say on most of them because you could easily categorise most of the questions as ‘various’, ie security/org setup or sales cloud/reports & dashboards as they often reference more than one feature per question.

I completely agree with the comments from Rena below – a lot of the questions were fairly vague and it was really hard to work out what you’re being asked. And a lot of the answer options, particularly when you’re asked to select more than one, are very very similar. If you could make your test questions a bit trickier it would prepare people a bit more I think.

        Amy

  180. Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 3, 2015 at 2:01 pm #

Would there be a way for you to indicate in the practice exam results the category to which a question applies? That is, “this question is reflected in the score “Fields and Objects”, which I’m associating with “Standard and Custom Objects” in the Study Guide objectives list. Although I can see how I’ve done in each category and it’s frequently apparent to which category a question applies, it’s not always obvious.

    • JohnCoppedge May 4, 2015 at 4:19 pm #

Not easily unfortunately – you’d have to track your score back to the individual questions.

      • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 4, 2015 at 5:08 pm #

I tried that but I wasn’t always sure which category a question applied to. I’ll go through it again if I have a chance. It’s not a big deal.

I think I’ve seen elsewhere that if I go through the test again, the questions will be the same but in a different order. Is that right?

  181. Janaki Reddi May 5, 2015 at 1:23 pm #

    Hi John ,

Your website is very useful . I love all the small scenarios which you have given after the sessions.

Best site for a theoretical and practical approach study ..

It would be helpful if you can give a scenario to build up full app, Just like the Recruitment App or Ware House App.

Do you have any similar site for Dev also .

    Thank You

    • JohnCoppedge May 5, 2015 at 2:26 pm #

Great thanks for the feedback – no dev materials at this stage. Love the app idea though.

  182. Virender Goel May 5, 2015 at 5:11 pm #

    Hi John
I am going for Dev 401 certification. Do you study material for that?

    • JohnCoppedge May 6, 2015 at 1:57 pm #

Short answer is no, however, the admin guide will help significantly in prep for dev certification.

  183. Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 5, 2015 at 6:54 pm #

I just passed my test! Yay! Thanks, John, for everything you’ve done in this site and for the community at large. Your insights and guidelines, and of course the information you provided, proved to be invaluable. For those who haven’t taken the test, when John says that the questions can be tricky, believe him! When others (who pass or don’t pass) say that the test is hard, believe them. The questions can be vague and very misleading (at least I think they can be; tough to say for sure since I don’t know what I got wrong). I didn’t know the answers the first time through on at least half the questions, and then still had to guess at about half of the “I still don’t know what’s being asked about” questions on subsequent passes. I used 89 of my 90 minutes. Egads!

    • JohnCoppedge May 6, 2015 at 1:59 pm #

Awesome congrats Rena and thanks for the feedback! Do any topics in particular stand out as ones that you weren’t confident on?

  184. Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 6, 2015 at 2:20 pm #

I can’t promise my memories are right; it’s kind of a blur now. I’ll do my best, though. There was a question about something having to do with the process builder, but the answers didn’t look familiar with respect to what I remember reading about it; I haven’t used it yet – but I will now, that’s for sure! The answers seemed to be asking about how to apply it to an approval process but I didn’t get the connection at all. And it might not have been the process builder but another kind of process or builder thing. (I know, not a lot of help there :-). Sorry about that.) There were quite a few about validation rules, which I thought I understood (when/if they were applied or not), but I had to guess at many of those.
I think the real issue is that the questions are very tricky. There’s one in particular I remember. How specific can I be up here? I don’t want to break any rules by providing too many details.
One thing I know that helped me was being able to reflect on my personal experience with Salesforce and picture the database I’ve been customizing and working with for quite a few years. That’s not to say that someone without experience can’t pass the test, but it sure does help to have some real-life examples to go back to. I wrote quite a few notes that applied the question to our database.

    • JohnCoppedge May 6, 2015 at 3:27 pm #

I wouldn’t post the question itself but if you want to post the gist of what was being asked that would be fine. Helpful to know – I would expect questions around each of those topics, and definitely hands-on experience is a huge help!

      • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 6, 2015 at 4:29 pm #

An example: You really need to understand the impact of login IP ranges and login hours. Know what can and can’t be done be done and what will or won’t happen depending on where you are and when you’re working. The information is covered here on the CoD site, but people need to infer more, do more connecting of the Salesforce dots. You know A and B, and you know D, but you need to be able to infer C.

And, you need to know what isn’t right so that you can eliminate the wrong answers. This saved me on more than one occasion (like in the areas mentioned above). I knew what answer to look for (what would be the “right” answer), but the answer choices didn’t provide the combination of information to create the right answer that I was familiar with. In other situations, I had absolutely no idea what the right answer was but I knew that the other answers were wrong. Sometimes I was only able to eliminate 2 answers in a 1-answer-out-of-4 scenario, but then I had to guess or infer between only 2 instead of 4 answers.

Again, I know this is vague and may be frightening, but honestly, the more deeply you understand a topic, the better off you’ll be. I really thought I knew this stuff inside and out, but the test made me really question my knowledge. I wish I’d read/looked at all the Should and Could resources in CoD, and read and understood all the “Help for this Page” on each section in Setup. I also wish I’d spent more time practicing with a Salesforce org while learning so that I could see things “in action” and test what would happen if I changed a setting or two.

I learn well when I write stuff down, so I would’ve taken a lot more notes, which would’ve helped me with some of the more esoteric concepts. (I also had access to other resources – the materials from a live Admin training class, a study group, and an “Admin Handbook” book – and I wish I’d used all of them more than I did.)

        • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 6, 2015 at 5:15 pm #

Another example I just remembered: Price books and products. I thought I knew how they’re used and not used and the relationships between them, but I didn’t.

          • JohnCoppedge May 7, 2015 at 6:44 pm #

That’s great information thanks Rena. I have heard that the exam has gotten progressively more difficult and this definitely keeps with that impression. The advice about really understanding the concepts is what I try to emphasize as well. If you understand the concepts then you will be able to infer the answers to the difficult questions. If you have any other specific advice for others on how to prepare – I’m sure everyone would love to hear it. Thanks for the feedback!

          • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 8, 2015 at 4:15 pm #

John, I replied offline in a message on your community profile due to its length and content. I wanted to make sure it met with your standards.

          • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 13, 2015 at 7:02 pm #

With John’s blessing :-), here are some more thoughts:
I don’t know if people will love to hear this :-) but here are some more suggestions:
Use the most full-featured sandbox you can get your hands on. The dev org is nice, but the more users (with roles and profiles, etc.) that you can test with, the better you’ll be able to see the impact of what you’re doing. (I realize that some of what’s talked about in CoD may not be possible to test in your sandbox or org, depending on your license types and feature activations.) Once that’s done, go through all the processes that are discussed in CoD. For example:
If possible, change the login hours, language, etc. for the sandbox org and for individual users.
Create all the different rule types (Validation, Assignment, Auto-response, Workflow, and Escalation).
Create different profiles and roles. Include subordinate roles.
Create as many users as you can, assigning them to the different profiles and roles.
Change the OWD so that you have some that are Private and Read-only (that is, don’t accept the default values).
Create custom fields (as many different types as you can) and objects, with the relationships that are discussed in CoD.
Create records in various objects to see how the above affect the exercises you’re following in CoD.
            Use the Process Builder.
            Create Approval processes.
            Etc., etc., etc.

I realize that this sounds like a lot of work – and it is! – but real-life experience with all (or as many as possible) of Salesforce’s features will make it easier for you to picture and hopefully understand what the questions are asking. I know that, for me, being able to picture our org helped my tremendously when I took the test. That said, I feel certain that the test would not have been as challenging as it was if I had done what I suggested above. Of course, time is limited, so as is suggested elsewhere, spend time on the areas on which the Study Guide indicates are the top 65% of the test.

            Good luck, everyone!

With all I’ve suggested, I want to let everyone know how incredibly valuable Certified on Demand was! I don’t think I would have passed without John’s approach – CoD’s guidelines, resources, and especially the review questions. So, thanks again, John!

    Hi John,
I have been working on salesforce for more than a year now. I work as assistant admin. I decided to get certified, I feel like I am ok performing my job but when I try to prepare fro exam I found out that there are so many little things I do not know. On search of training material , that is when I stumbeled on this site. I am almost done with the free session on this site but before I pay I would like to ask, if I take of a week off from my work to concentrate and prepare for certification Admin 201 using your site , do you think I will get thru all the things in it be ready for exam ?
Between work and kids family I barely have 60 minitues a day to study and my dream of getting certified getting extended.
My manager promissed to get me training for ADM 201 probably cost >4000 , I just do not want any string attached.
my other question is does the 4 – 5 day training sessions they provide thru salesforce university , does that really prepare me ?
Thanks and any response from any one is appreciated. I feel like things are dragging for far too long
    -YM

    • JohnCoppedge May 9, 2015 at 5:24 pm #

The admin course from Salesforce on its own (from what I hear) is typically not enough to get certified. It is hard to say if one week will be enough – the instructor led course is one week and that I would argue is not. It really depends on your past experience and how quickly you learn. Good luck!

  186. Idris Michla May 8, 2015 at 9:56 am #

    Hi John.

I passed my ADM 201 a few days ago and would like to say your website was a big part of the reason I passed. A couple of suggestions I’d like to make however, such as maybe making the 30 question mock exam a little harder and maybe include more questions with 2 or even 3 answers as I noticed many multiple select answer questions on the exam. I particularly liked the “key facts” columns for each section which gave a good brief overview but the main thing I liked was the format of the guide and how it enables people to work through each section in an efficient manner. Anyone wishing to take the exam, purchasing this guide is the first thing you should do!! Great job John!

    • JohnCoppedge May 9, 2015 at 5:25 pm #

      Hi Idris,

Congrats and thanks for the feedback! Extending the exam is probably at the top of my list.

Just passed my exam on the first try thanks in large part to this exceptionally well organized and information-packed site! Thank you, John, for putting this together and maintaining it so diligently. I highly recommend CertifiedonDemand.com for folks studying for ADM 201, as well as anyone just wanting to learn about the many features of Salesforce.

Just a quick thanks to COD and John for this wonderful site – I recently took and passed my ADM 201 and this site was one of my primary study / reference areas. Now all I have to do is a) put that certification to use, and b) find a similar site that can help with the DEV 401 exam!

    hello John,
I am planning for my exam and need to know the relevance of winter or summer 15. I was on webassessor and while I was going to book the exam, I could only see retake options. Was I in the right place? Any help will do as I look to Friday for my exam. please help

    Thaks

    • JohnCoppedge May 19, 2015 at 3:50 pm #

I don’t have an update date set yet, although I am planning on completing it shortly after Summer 15 is release. If you read the release notes thoroughly and review Spring and Summer 15 release training you should be in good shape for the exam.

Thanks for this awesome resource John!! I am studying for the Beginner Admin course. Can this resource be used to study for any other SFDC certification? Sorry is this was already asked.

    • JohnCoppedge May 20, 2015 at 3:13 pm #

Hey Kayla- this guide will help you prep for other exams, but it will only cover all of the material for the admin exam.

  191. shoelessj May 20, 2015 at 10:29 pm #

John, Big “Thank You” for this resource. Just passed my Admin exam using this guide, trailhead, and a dev org. Well worth the cost. Keep up the good work!!

  192. Abid Pathan May 21, 2015 at 3:58 am #

I paid 40$ where do I see the material which released after paying the amount

    • JohnCoppedge May 21, 2015 at 1:14 pm #

You access it normally – you would get a message telling you to login or signup if you had not paid

    Hello John ,

I just passed my Admin 201 exam today!!
Thank you so much the guides where very well organized and helped me a lot in my study ,
I would recommend adding more questions though it’s different when you know the information in a certain context and when it come in a short question .
Generally the Exam question where a bit confusing you feel the you know the answer but you never sure LooL , Anyway thanks and hope you do for the rest of the certifications as well.

I mistakenly unsubscribed from the notification service (the bouncing mouse pointer – argh!). How do I resubscribe?

  195. Abid Pathan May 21, 2015 at 5:06 pm #

    Hi Jon

I logged with my login credentials..I see same study guide which is available for free…

After paying the fees..I should be able to see more questions right in the quiz? I dont see that..Please help me..

I’m going to write th ADM 201 day after tomorrow.

  196. Abid Pathan May 22, 2015 at 3:56 am #

    Hi John

I logged in…I’m going thorough the study guide..Its very good..

What my question is – I see only only 4 question in the quiz…that 4 questions available even from free subscribers also..

I heard after subscribing..we will be getting more questions for practice…is this true?

    • JohnCoppedge May 31, 2015 at 6:07 pm #

You would not be able to access certain portions of the site if not logged in. Most sections have a few questions, and then there is a quiz at the end with several more.

    Hi,

Is this guide suitable for someone completely new to Salesforce.com but wants to get certified.

    Thanks

    • JohnCoppedge May 26, 2015 at 2:01 am #

Yes, use other tools if you can as well (premier training, classroom training, etc)

  198. lfaust May 27, 2015 at 3:55 pm #

:-) Passed my test today! Your site was a great resource.

    Thanks,

    Hai john,

your site is VERY clear and easy to understand the concepts. Thanks alot.I just planning to do Admin 201 certification next month. My doubt is : In multiple choice question.DO they give option to choose answer ex: select 2 answer . pls give some advice ..

    • JohnCoppedge May 29, 2015 at 10:23 pm #

Yes, I do believe that it will state how many answers you should select

      • Rena Bennett-Dellwo May 29, 2015 at 10:39 pm #

And, it won’t let you continue if you haven’t selected the right number of answers. I tried to select the 2 answers I knew were right and come back later to review the question again and select the 3rd answer, but it told me I needed to select 3 before continuing.
        Good luck, Nithya!

    Hi John,
Just a quick message to say thank you for your very helpful site, I had no experience at all of Salesforce and passed the exam a couple of days ago on the second attempt, so can now perhaps look for a job to get some hands on experience. I would say to anyone starting out to follow your site and also have a good read of the course outline on the Salesforce website so you know where to concentrate your efforts. Thanks again Paul

    Hi John,
I wanted to thank you for such a fabulous and resourceful site. I just sat and passed the 201 exam first time and I absolutely credit this site. You helped sift through the mountains of information out there and kept me on the right track. Thank you and keep up the great work!

    John,

Just wanted to say thanks for this guide as it was THE resource that helped me pass my ADM 201 exam this morning. (http://certification.salesforce.com/verification?&fullname=walter%20alvendia). After my colleague had also utilized this site to pass his exam last week, I felt confident taking my exam this morning. I will suggest to anyone who wants to get certified I would absolutely highly recommend this site. Thanks again!

    Walter

    • walvendia June 4, 2015 at 8:48 pm #

John – on to the Sales Cloud and Service Cloud certs for me. Any recommendations for passing those certs – similar to using your site :-) ?

      • JohnCoppedge June 11, 2015 at 12:26 am #

I don’t know of any unfortunately – I am planning to start a section for other exam resources as I find them (but there don’t seem to be a lot of them out there past admin/dev)

    • JohnCoppedge June 11, 2015 at 12:18 am #

      Hey Walter,

That’s awesome- congrats! Appreciate your support, glad the site helped! And dig the verification.

      Cheers,

      John

    Hi John,

I see SP15 as the currently available exam for ADM201. Is it ok to take this SP15 exam or wait until Summer 15 exam? Pls advise.

    • JohnCoppedge June 11, 2015 at 12:24 am #

This guide was last updated for Winter 15 – make sure to review the release notes for the versions since then (spring 15, and summer 15 if you take the summer 15 version of the exam).

  204. leishrene June 5, 2015 at 6:09 pm #

    Hi John,

I just wanted to thank you for such a comprehensive site. I purchased the COD admin training package about a month ago and have been using it faithfully ever since. I’m pleased to say that this morning, I took the admin exam and PASSED!!! YAY! Don’t think I could have done it without your site. Thank you, Thank you! Now on to the Developer certification!

    Hi John,

I passed my 201 few weeks ago. Thanks to your wonderful guide !! I am taking 401 in 10 days and I am hoping some of the sections in this guide are going to
    prepare me. Any thoughts ?

    • JohnCoppedge June 16, 2015 at 1:05 pm #

This guide is designed to help prep for 201 but many of the concepts will carry over. It will definitely help, but you will need to do some additional work on the topics not covered.

  206. itellez June 16, 2015 at 3:28 am #

    John,

I passed Admin 201 today! This study guide was instrumental. I will definitely be recommending it to others :) Now on to 301 and 401

That is such awesome feedback I had a similar experience years ago and certification really helped transform my career as well. That’s a good part of why I started this site and I so excited to hear about these results. Congrats!

    John,

I just wanted to say an immense “Thank You” for your this incredible resource you are kind enough to share. Your explanations, examples, questions, advice and practice tests are spot on and were just what I needed. I took both the Adm 201 and Dev 401 today and passed both and of the 6 of so places I used to help me prepare, yours is one of those at the top.

    Hi John,
I am planning to register for certification for Adm 201 , currently i am not in salesforce , as i am total new newbie to this product , and have no exposure to salesforce and no prior experience in field of CRM & Sales,as my total exp in field of supply chain , consulting in manufacturing.
But currently working as a procurement manger and have no exposure to salesforce ,even though i have not seen a single screen yet for salesforce
Below are the Question to you john :-
    1) Will this course material and videos will help to clear ADM 201 Exam , as per new releases what sales force is planning in future ?
    2) Is Classroom training required from certified salesforce training institute as i am not having exposure to salesforce , after that this will video will help me ?
    3) How to plan for study for ADM201 Based on your videos and notes …If classroom training is not required

Awaiting for your”s valuable feedback and suggestions !

    Regards,
    Nitesh

    • JohnCoppedge July 2, 2015 at 9:35 pm #

I would suggest reading the getting started and faq.

1 material is currently updated to winter 15 – you will need to review a few updates to SFDC.
2 classroom will help but is not required.
3 start working through the materials :)

      Cheers

      John

Hi, I am planning for ADmin certification, and was wondering if the material is uptodate considering the fact that I am planing to take the test some time in october/Nov time frame?

  211. rsantos July 9, 2015 at 2:28 am #

Hi, I did the test today and passed the exam. I used all the quiz and the certification exam, but what helped me was how to choose the best answer based on the question. There were questions which seemed to have more than one option to choose from, but the secret is to check all the points in question and which is applied to meet the need.

Thanks for the help, but need to have the option of other tests such as Sales Cloud and Service Cloud.

AVOID THIS. Don’t waste your money. The study guide is a decent overview of Salesforce but does not have the level of specificity needed to get anywhere near passing the test. Try the free samples then take online quizzes (not just the one here) and see if you learned any of the answers from this study guide. Chances are you won’t.

    • JohnCoppedge July 27, 2015 at 1:48 pm #

      Hi Dan,

This site offers a study guide for Salesforce certification; it is not marketed nor advertised as a full training curriculum (I understand the admin training course on its own does not provide enough depth for certification either). It is designed to provide a framework for you to explore Salesforce and offer challenges and questions to get you thinking about things in the context of a certification exam. Practice questions can be used to gauge your preparedness for certification, they are not an effective learning tool. Did you pass the questions in each section on this site on first attempt? If not, then you probably didn’t spend enough time with the materials and in the application (which would also explain the results on other practice test).

I have gotten feedback from hundreds of users that have gotten successfully certified using CoD as part of their preparation methodology, while feedback like yours has been close to zero. Additionally, much of the content on this site can be accessed as part of a free trial. You always have the option of trying the content out first. Good luck with your certification, and all the best!

      Cheers,

      John
