    Hi John,

In general, if a business wanted weekly summaries of the progress of the firm, are there an advantages over having a weekly Reporting / Analytical Snapshot rather than a Dashboard being e-mail to you..? As in, is there a significant difference?

    Thank you again!!

    KR,

Snapshot creates more data and historical referenceable data that you could go back and reference later (e.g. show me pipeline at x point in history), while a dashboard weekly would only allow you to see/compare that data if you kept a copy of all of the emails that were sent to you

FYI, There are 73 questions on the 201 now.

    • JohnCoppedge May 12, 2017 at 6:17 pm #

13 are likely beta questions that don’t count on your exam results – there’s an explanation for this in the registration process

on Q4, I chose to email separate reports, rather than a dashboard because I did not think a dashboard was automatically updated. Is it updated when emailed? I would not want to manually run it prior to emailing.
    thanks for all of this!

Yeah it would be refreshed immediately prior to send… def wouldn’t want to send outdated info 🙂

hi. can you share the difference between a custom summary field and a custom formula field. I get the obvious difference, but struggling with answer to number 3
    thanks.

    • JohnCoppedge February 15, 2017 at 2:42 am #

A custom formula field adds a field to the object.

A custom summary in the report allows you to summarize grouping of data within the context of only that report.

Formula field = calculations within that record
Custom summary = calculations of summarizations within that report

I’ll look at expanding this content out… custom summaries to me are one of the hardest things to understand

Q4 answer is bit confusing, from efforts perspective and having to need manual intervention emailing users individual reports sound better.

    • JohnCoppedge February 15, 2017 at 2:43 am #

Manually emailing individual users reports sounds better than having the system automatically send a summary-level dashboard? I might not be interpreting this comment correctly…?

    John:

On my DE I can hover to the top right of any dashboard component and share it as “Snapshot to the Dashboard feed” or “Snapshot to to User or Group Feed”, however on my Unlimited edition, I can’t see this option either on Production or Sandbox, even after I had enabled “Enable Dashboard Components Snapshots” under Report and Dashboard settings.
I am logged as Admin and already checked the permissions under profile and all seems to be checked.

    Thanks

Hi John, for Q3, why can’t the 4th option Matrix be selected?

    • JohnCoppedge March 30, 2015 at 2:49 pm #

Matrix/summary reports would give you the record count but would not display this as a percentage of the whole – to do this you would need to use a custom summary formula, e.g. RowCount/
      PARENTGROUPVAL(RowCount, GRAND_SUMMARY)

Q4) Just an fyi – the ‘Schedule a Dashboard Refresh’ permission isn’t available in Developer Edition:

RE: Question 2 explanation: Needs editing (though one can’t get more nit-picky than this):

as information can be summarized along both axis

    …should read

as information can be summarized along both axes

    Hi John,
It would be helpful, if you could provide a back button to the quiz so that we can review the quiz questions/answers before the final submit.

      Hi Dev,

I will take this under advisement as I add new content. Keep in mind the goal of this guide is to provide a lesson plan for you to learn SFDC; the questions are there simply to validate that you’ve learned the concepts.

One more grammar nits: the plural of axis is axes. Really.

  14. Swanand patil March 24, 2014 at 7:49 pm #

Most of the quiz questions refer to study material that is not covered in Analytics like types of reports and dashboards. which section covers these topics?

    Thanks,
    Swanand

More questions, especially about report types, would be very nice.
