Is the data within SDFC segregated by company ?

Data is segregated at Salesforce based on org (many/most companies have multiple orgs, e.g. production and sandbox)

Setting business hours lets you apply specific time zones and locations to:
    Milestones in entitlement processes
    Entitlement processes
    Cases
    Case escalation rules
I read some of your comments about B Hrs only impacting cases so how do you explain these info above. it seems NOT only cases escalation but entitlement?

This is addressed in the service cloud section, although the admin exam should not cover this in great depth. The key at this stage is to understand how are set up and influence other components from a timing standpoint…

        Hi John,
Recently signed up and enjoying the learning curve so far! Is there a way to bookmark where you left off on the site?

Hi John, I have two additional questions which are related to the company profile settings but which were not addressed in the profile section:

    1) If a user logged in during the company specific hours provided by the SFDC admin but then stays in Salesforce past the restricted time period (i.e., the user remains in SFDC past 6 PM and the company login hours are 8 A.M. to 6 P.M.), will that user be logged out automatically at 6PM, or will that user be allowed to continue to stay in SFDC until they manually logout? If they are allowed to stay, will their work be saved?

    2) In the case where a corporate currency is set, but then a user selects a personal currency which is different from the corporate (i.e., the corporate currency is US$ but the personal currency of the sales rep is Yen), would new opportunities use the corporate currency or personal currency if the sales rep creates an opportunity?

    Thank you for your time,

    Max Fisher

      1. They will be logged out as soon as they attempt any action (view record, save, etc.) – I would expect that their work will not be saved if they attempt to save a record after their login hours have expired.

      2. That’s a good question – I don’t know off hand unfortunately and I don’t have multi-currency enabled in my dev environment at the moment… if you get a chance to test please let us know.

wow – I missed the effect the default working hours has on user sessions. Is it actually covered in the core materials? The answer you have provided John seems to indicate potential data loss and a poor customer experience. Is there at least a system warning (or two) to all live user sessions about an end of hours time being reached?

Wondering if data not saved can perhaps be cached somehow and how offline behavior generally functions in SFDC, if at all.

        Enjoying your course so far!

Just wrote a note on clarification – yes login hours can have this affect. I don’t think there is a warning and that is definitely a concern. Login hours are not typically something that is enabled arbitrarily.

    • JohnCoppedge May 6, 2015 at 3:51 pm #

I should add Max – business hours are different than login hours (which are set at he profile). Login hours determine when the user can login (or stay logged in) while business hours and holidays are used to determine when case escalation occurs – they are two separate configurations.

Hmmm, I tried to submit my feedback survey, and nothing happens.

    Thank you for this, excellent!

You might consider adding two items:
1 – when using more than one Business Hours, choose the one to use as the default, and
2 – remember to check the Active Box in order to activate the newly created hours.

    • Cindy Gavelek May 30, 2014 at 10:21 pm #

Ahhh, it seems that both went to you when I hit Submit Comment, but the Submit button for the survey alone didn’t do it.
