Hello John – THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS SITE!!! Our site has 9,000 licenses, 3,000 of which are Restricted Use. Other than the totals under Settings -> Company Information, is there a way to see a consolidated list of which users have which licenses? I tried creating a report but didn’t see any such object to use to generate it. How can you see the detail?

    Hi John,

Let us say that the FY starts in January 2017.
i want to try out both the options of how the FY is named to see the difference.
Can you point out where I can see the name of the FY ? i tried in reports and there is only shows current FY , previous FY etc.?

    • JohnCoppedge April 15, 2017 at 5:05 pm #

When you reconfigure fiscal years that will impact current FY, prior FY, etc. You can’t have two active fiscal models at the same time (e.g. FY will always represent the current fiscal year config)

    Hi John,
What happens after the login hours on a profile, say 9-5 daily, expire? Does the user get logged out and lose unsaved work or can he continue, but without starting new sessions? thanks!

    • JohnCoppedge March 13, 2017 at 2:19 pm #

After the login hours expire, the next action would be rejected. So if the user clicks edit at 4:59 and then save at 5:01, the edits will be lost and the user will get logged out instead.

Is it important to know what’s available in the Classic and Lightening Experience, editions, and what all user permissions allow you to do?

Why is there not “manage currencies” in the Developer Ed.?
    Thanks.

The “Configuring the Company Profile” link, the very first one, doesn’t open in a new tab, rather in the same window. In order to see the rest of this page I had to backspace and it’s pretty easy to miss since there are links to continue on the right side of the page

    Hi John,

I have couple of questions concerning the language setting in ‘Company profile’:

    (1) What is the difference between “Enable end-user languages – Help and Setup are not translated in end-user languages” AND Enable platform-only languages – no default translations are provided for platform-only languages?
    (2) what are “platform-only language” and “Help and Setup” ?

    Regards,
    Gil

    • JohnCoppedge January 19, 2016 at 11:10 pm #

Help and setup – refers to the help and set up menus in salesforce. In other words, this indicates if the help/setup menus are translated.

Default translations refers to the translation of standard fields and objects – in other words is “Opportunity” translated in the desired language, for example.

        Clear. Thank you

I just want to thank you John for this site. It helped me a great deal to pass my ADM 201 certification 3 month ago. I am working on my DEV 401 , I hope there is a similar site to help prepare for sales force developer ?
    Thank You again

That’s awesome, congrats! No other guides at this point – definitely something to consider for the future.

I can’t access the “What Editions Have API Access?” page either. It says my organization has exceed the limit?

  11. luke.leonard October 20, 2015 at 5:51 pm #

The “What is Salesforce.com Web Services API?” links to a blank page.

  12. richa.midha@outlook.com September 26, 2015 at 8:09 pm #

I am also facing the same problem.

  13. Brian Evans September 16, 2015 at 3:02 am #

    John,
I think the link for “What is Salesforce.com Web Services API?” is broken? (the third item on the page)
When I click it, the page it goes to is just a Search page in the Salesforce Help portal?

    • Travis Tran September 26, 2015 at 6:43 pm #

I think this is on SFDC’s end. I’m not able to access either.

  14. Gautam Kasukhela May 2, 2015 at 6:00 am #

    Hello John,
In the salesforce help page for editions that support API usage it is mentioned:-
To use the API, your organization must be on one of the following 3 editions. Note that this feature is enabled by default:

    1. Enterprise Edition
    2. Unlimited Edition
    3. Developer Edition
    4. Performance Edition

Should it have been 4 instead of 3 or is an edition added incorrectly to the list of 3.?

    Regards,
    Gautam.

Business Hours & Holiday — I have set the hours from 9 to 6 PM daily, still it would not logged out automatically after 6 PM. It would allow continue of work. Am I missing something?

    • JohnCoppedge March 24, 2015 at 10:05 pm #

Login hours impact when the user can access the system, not business hours. Business hours are used to determine case escalation.

      • MikeSabel May 19, 2015 at 3:46 pm #

So in this case, how can this admin configure Salesforce to ensure a user is logged out at 6 pm?

    Hi John

We need to add the Setting up of multiple Curriencies and under the developer edition i could find Manage corporate currency or Manage currencies. Please help.

    • JohnCoppedge February 20, 2014 at 6:13 am #

To set up multiple currencies requires a feature request with Salesforce – you can raise a case to SFDC support and they will enable it. This is discussed further into this guide as well.
